The Government has declared October 14 as a holiday for Central government offices, including PSUs and banks, located in Delhi because of the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.

Gagan Narang wins gold, Bindra silver in 10 m air rifle
Gagan-NarangOn the third day of the commonwealth games, ace rifle shooter Gagan Narang piped compatriot Abhinav Bindra to clinch the Gold in the men’s 10m individual air rifle event at the Dr Karni Singh Range in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Olympic champion Bindra had to be content with a silver while this was Gagan’s second and India’s third Gold in the shooting competition of the 19th Commonwealth Games.

Earlier in the day, Gagan shot a perfect 600 to equal his own world record in men’s 10m individual air rifle qualification.

Commonwealth Games 2010: Indian swimmers qualify for 4×100m freestyle relay final
cwg-swimmingIndian swimming today made Commonwealth Games history when the quartet of Virdhawal Khade, Anshul Kothari, Arjun Jayaprakash and Aaron D’Souza finished sixth to make the cut in men’s 4×100m freestyle relay.

India also qualified for the semifinals when Badrinath Melkote (men’s 50m backstroke) and Shubha Chittaranjan (women’s 50m butterfly) finished 14th and 16th in their respective events.
