Strong legal framework needed to abolish child labour in the country
child-labourNational Commission for Protection of Child Rights has pleaded for a strong legal framework to abolish child labour in the country.

In a brief chat with All India Radio news, the chairperson of the Commission Prof. Shanta Sinha asserted that right to education can help in achieving the objective as there will be more awareness among the masses.

She said once the Right to Education is fully implemented, it will automatically result that children are in schools and do not become part of the labour pool.

Prof. Sinha conceded that the Commission is short of required infrastructure to reach every child. She called upon the States and non-governmental organisations to extend required cooperation in this direction.

She identified Child Rights, provision of minimum nutrition level to them and guaranteeing access to entitlements of children affected with HIV and AIDS as major challenges and reiterated India’s commitment to become a partner in the global campaign against Child Labour.
