Japan Tsunami 2011: Japan Earthquake latest news, Images & Video
Nearly 1,000 people are dead and missing in Japan after the massive tsunami caused by a devastating earth quake struck north east parts of the country.
NHK channel in Japan reported that tremors are still continuing with 6 to 7 magnitude on the richter scale. Cars, ships and buildings were swept away by a wall of water after the 8.9 magnitude tremor, struck about 400 km north east of Tokyo on Friday. See Japan Tsunami Images
In one ward alone in Sendai, a port city close to the epicentre of the quake, about 200 to 300 bodies were found. Japan’s Kyodo news agency quoting Defence Ministry said about 1,800 homes in Minamisoma and Fukushima were flatened. Capital Tokyo is on alert for fresh tsunamis.
