For Sri Lanka, S Randiv was the only wicket taker. He took 5 wickets in 29 overs giving 82 runs—his career’s best bowling figures. It was Sri Lanka’s first defeat after 16 years at the P Sara Oval, Colombo.

India made 258 for five in the second innings, chsing a victory target of 257, with V.V.S. Laxman scoring an unbeaten 103.

Sri Lanka made 425 in the first innings and 267 in their second. India were bowled out for 436 in their first innings.
