Home Secretary visits Srinagar today to take stock of situation
The Cabinet Committee on security today discussed the situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of fresh violence in the kashmir valley. The Home Secretary Mr. G.K. Pillai is visiting Srinagar today to take stock of the situation in the Kashmir valley. The decision on the Home Secretary’s visit follows meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security held in New Delhi this morning.
The meeting convened by the Prime Minister is understood to have been briefed on the latest situation in the valley by the Home Minister Mr P Choiidambaram . The Finance Minister Mr Pranab Mukherjee and the Defence Minister Mr A . K Antony also attended the meeting among others.
Meanwhile the centre has made it clear that army has been deployed in the valley on the request of the state government to assist the civil authorities to restore peace. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a seminar in New Delhi today, the Minister of State for Defence Mr Pallam Raju said the army will stay in the valley as long as is necessary . He said that the government however would like to recall it as soon as the situation improves.
