Heavy Rains lash Andhra, Tamil Nadu coastal areas; Crops Damaged
In Andhra Pradesh, heavy rain in the wake of depression in the Bay of Bengal have inundated crops in over 3 lakh hectares in the coastal districts of the state.
A number of tanks and roads were damaged in Nellore , Prakasam, East Godavari, Guntur and Srikakulam districts due to heavy rains. A number of rivulets, streams and tanks in these districts were in spite while flash floods in Prakasam district disrupted road traffic.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy reviewed the situation and directed Collectors of all the nine coastal districts to be on alert. He appointed special officers Prakasam, Nellore , East Godavari districts to monitor the relief measures.
In Tamil Nadu incessant rain has disrupted normal life especially in the coastal areas. The state government has set up several relief camps in community centres in the affected areas. State government has decided to approach the centre for an assistance of 1,607 crore rupees.
