Earthquake hits Mexico

An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter Scale hit off the west coast of Mexico. The US Geological Survey (USGS) said its epicentre was 290 kilometers from the town of Puerto Vallarta in the state of Jalisco.

In its preliminary report, the monitoring service said the quake had a strength of 6.4, but revised the figure downwards later.

The quake struck at 09:11 pm (local time) at a depth of 10 kilometers. No tsunami warning was issued. There are no immediate reports of any damage or casualties.
