Centre chalks out programme for diabetes cardio vascular diseases
The Centre has chalked out a programme under which people in hundred backward districts and 35 towns with the population of ten lakhs or above will be tested for diabetes and cardio vascular diseases.
Giving this information in Lok Sabha today during question hour, the Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad said the towns will be from 13 states while the 100 districts will be spread over 20 states.
He said the government plans to cover a population of a few crores in the first year and the population across the country will be covered in five years time. Mr. Azad said 22 thousand sub-centres will be involved in the exercise in addition to other health facilities.
He also informed the members that diabetes can be managed effectively under the Indian system of medicine through diet, medicines, yoga and exercise. He said that the treatment through the system is based on the body, mind, constitution of a patient and degree and chronocity of the disease. According to WHO, the prevalence of diabetes in India is estimated to reach 79.4 million by 2030.
