All Party meeting on J & K situation calls political parties for peace and normalcy
jammu and kashmirThe all-party meeting convened by the Jammu and Kashmir government to discuss situation in the state appealed to all political parties irrespective of their affiliation to come forward and help in restoration of peace and normalcy. It also called for an independent inquiry into the death of civilians and also urged Prime Minister to give fillip to internal and external dialogue. After the meeting that lasted over four hours, the parties also decided to meet Dr Manmohan Singh.

A statement read out by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah after the meeting in Srinagar urged the Centre to strengthen the on-going peace process through the internal and external dialogue. The PDP and Panthers Party did not attend the meet. The parties urged the state government to have an inquiry conducted to ascertain the circumstances leading to the death of civilians. The meeting expressed deep anguish at the unfortunate loss of lives during the recent disturbances and appealed to the state government to consider adequate relief for the families of the deceased.

Meanwhile, in Kashmir valley, authorities are enforcing restrictions on the movement of people under section 144 in Srinagar and other major towns today. There is huge deployment of police and paramilitary forces particularly in the interior Srinagar city as both factions of Huriyat conference have announced to take out a march to martyrs grave yard in the area. The state is today observing the martyrs day and tributes are paid to those who laid down their lives on this day in 1931. AIR correspondent reports that the leaders of mainstream party’s are also visiting the martyrs grave yard to pay tributes.
